A WORLD IN CRISIS ---
2009 SWINE FLU & FINANCIAL CHAOS
By Pamela Rowe, LPMAFA, FMFAA

Educational comments.

The astrological indicators for such a crisis must involve more comprehensive patterns than just an aspect or two. We must look at the bigger picture for unusual cyclic patterns and eclipses.

However, classic Saturn/Neptune cycles, especially the conjunctions and oppositions, often coincide with world health cycles. This study is outlined in my book 'The Health Zodiac'. In early 2009 Saturn and Neptune fluctuated in quincunx aspect and as a result of retrograde planetary motion, form their exact quincunx on September 12, 2009.

Similarly, the 20-year Jupiter/Saturn cycles and the 18-year transiting Moon Node cycles are often referred to by astrologers researching world financial trends. On March 22 and again on August 19, 2009, Jupiter and Saturn are in quincunx aspect to each other. Astrologers know that quincunx aspects can be creative, but have a reputation for being difficult, with the planets 'not quite making a successful combination'.

The transit of the Northern Moon Node through the sign of Aquarius is consistent with a low point in business activity, as outlined in the book 'Astrology and Stock Market Forecasting' by Louise McWhirter. This book was first published in 1938, with a second edition in 1977. Researchers will be pleased to hear that the American Federation of Astrologers, Inc. has recently released a new edition.
The Northern Moon Nodes has been in Aquarius since December 2007 and will leave the sign late July/early August 2009, depending on whether the mean or true nodes position is used.

Once again I stress that world conditions in 2009 are exceptional and hard to explain through commonly occurring cycles, so I am looking to more unusual cyclic patterns and eclipses.

SOLAR ECLIPSES
On January 26, 2009 the Solar Eclipse at six and a half degrees Aquarius was conjunction to Jupiter, semi-square Venus and Uranus and sesquiquadrate to Saturn. Saturn was in retrograde and applying to the second of three oppositions to Uranus, which occurred on February 5 (the first opposition occurred November 4, 2008 and the final opposition will occur on September 15, 2009).

Personal and professional havoc has been experienced in many sectors around the planet. Those working in the health care industry have noticed a marked increase in people complaining of stress, health conditions and strained relationships.

REACTIVATION OF SOLAR ECLIPSE
Examine the chart of the new moon on April 25, 2009. I believe the New Moon degree of 5 degrees Taurus reactivated the energies of the January 2009 solar eclipse. Although by late April the swine flu had been highly active in Mexico for at least a month, the news hit the world as the number of cases of travellers arriving home from Mexico with swine flu swelled.

It is astrologically interesting that in the April 25 new moon chart Venus is conjunct Mars square Pluto in Capricorn (with Venus and Mars of this chart in even tighter aspect to the January eclipse Pluto). This combination aptly describes the human (Venus) animal (Mars) transformative (Pluto) characteristics of the swine flu virus.

Despite the number of deaths which have occurred as a result of the swine flu, ample supplies of anti viral medicine are available, international cooperation is strong, and the virus has been promptly identified and dealt with around the world. Intense work continues to produce a vaccine, as flu seasons accelerate vulnerability in northern and southern latitude countries.

This health crisis is reminiscent of other geographical health crises, for example the Mad Cow disease, which attracted high alert in Great Britain in 1986, plus the Avian (Bird) Flu and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), which attracted high alert in the Asian countries in 2003.

THE GALACTIC CENTRE
There are two points not commonly used, the Galactic Centre and Hades, which are important to this study. Firstly the Galactic Centre, a barely moving point and centre of the solar system, is situated at 26deg.59min. Sagittarius. The Galactic Centre is where we look to consider events relating to the 'World at Large'. Planets or sensitive points are often located on the Galactic Centre in the charts of people who make a major impact on the world at large.

We watched as transiting Pluto in Sagittarius conjoined the Galactic Centre over the past couple of years, in particular its tight aspect in December 2006. As a repercussion, we have seen spiritual/religious upheavals and world finances transformed. Pluto first moved into Capricorn in January 2008 and is currently in retrograde motion, but it will not move back into Sagittarius in the near future to form another exact conjunction to the Galactic Centre.

However, I do believe Pluto's transforming influence is still prevalent in world affairs and will continue to make its mark throughout 2009.

HADES
This hypothetical planet is used in the Witte system of astrology and described in 'Rules for Planetary Pictures' by Ludwig Rudolph as "The destructive power of the past, which contains the seeds of death" -- An interesting description when considering the swift, indiscriminate action of the swine flu, attacking young, healthy individuals as well as those with more vulnerable immune systems.

The Hades position moves very slowly and is currently at 27deg. 09mins Gemini, opposite the Galactic Centre. So 'the world at large' is experiencing 'the destructive power of the past'.

URANUS
In addition, transiting Uranus is currently at 25deg. 28mins Pisces, and applying to a T-square to Hades and the Galactic Centre. Slow moving Uranus will remain in Pisces for some time, so more surprises can be expected (some of them happy of course).
Currently the sudden, disruptive incidence of the swine flu has upset carefully laid plans on a massive scale. Financial and business outcomes are unpredictable, even by experts in the field.

WHAT'S AHEAD?
On September 15, 2009 Saturn at 24deg. 43mins Virgo opposes Uranus at 24deg. 43mins. Pisces, for the third and final opposition of this series to occur in 2009. (There are two more oppositions in 2010 between April and July, combined with the involvement of Jupiter, which will add a new slant to world financial and political climates, but that is another story and another article).
Back to 2009 -- The New Moon at 25deg. 59mins Virgo on September 18, 2009 adds momentum to this opposition, which will form a Grand Cross with Hades and the Galactic Centre.
In addition the Saturn quincunx Neptune aspect becomes exact on September 12, completing the health cycle started in early 2009.

We must consider that by September 15 Hades will have moved to 29deg. 32min Gemini and the orb may be considered too wide for Hades to be included in this Grand Cross pattern. However, it will be within only one degree of an opposition to Pluto, which is back to 0deg.40min Capricorn following its retrograde motion.

Pluto rules the immune system and major medical breakthroughs will be possible in immune system research. It would be a stretch of the imagination to think that world financial markets will have bounced back to their previous strength by September.

JUNE 4, 2009 UPDATE ON THE ABOVE ARTICLE
The April 25, 2009 New Moon chart certainly reactivated the January 26, 2009 Solar Eclipse chart, which played such a significant role in Victoria's bushfires (see Victorian Bushfires article on this website).

The first case of Swine Flu arrived in Australia on May 7 and was confirmed in the media on May 9, 2009. From the onset it was immediately apparent that Victoria, the Bushfire State, would outnumber all other Australian States with Swine Flu cases, even the larger and more heavily populated States. Initially the number of Victorian Swine Flu cases doubled daily in Victoria. As at June 4, 2009 there are over 600 cases of Swine Flu in Australia, with 521 of these in Victoria.

Perhaps it is not beyond the realms of possibility to consider that the extraordinary climate and fire disaster conditions in Victoria since early 2009 has created a compatible environment for the Swine Flu to flourish.

During the Victorian bushfire disaster, extraordinary rainfall occurred north of Victoria in Queensland. Towards the end of the reactivating April 25 new moon cycle and immediately prior to the commencement of the following new moon cycle on May 24, exceptionally heavy rainfall occurred again in the north. The towns of Grafton and Kempsey in New South Wales were faced with floods and evacuation was ordered on May 23, 2009.

Health authorities keep informing us that at least one in five Australians will catch the Swine flu, which adds up to over four million people. We are also advised that it is quite manageable and that young children are the most vulnerable. Older Australians have experienced many flu epidemics and their resistance may lessen the impact of this new Swine Flu virus. The very young do not have such resistance and a vaccine is still not available.
However Australians have been lucky. As at the date of writing this update we have had no fatalities.
